2. Article Type

ACEMedicine welcomes submissions of full-length original articles, review articles, short communications or brief reports and letters to the editor.

2.1 Original Article

These articles should be based on original research, with accurate methodology, and be relevant to international health policy and management. They should not exceed 5000 words, excluding structured abstract, tables, figures, legends, and references. Each manuscript must clearly state an objective or hypothesis. It should also include the study design and methodology (such as study setting, experimental animals, patients or participants, inclusion and exclusion criteria, sampling and data source), data analysis and interpretations, main results of the study, discussion of the results, study limitations, and the conclusion. A structured abstract is required for all original articles.

2.2 Review Article

Review articles are critical evaluations of existing research on a particular topic. They summarize, analyze, and discuss the current state of knowledge in a field, identifying gaps, inconsistencies, and areas for future research. These articles consist of systematic reviews, meta-analyses, narrative reviews, scoping reviews and umbrella reviews. These articles should not exceed 7000 words, excluding the abstract, tables, figures, legends, and references. The specific type of study or analysis, intervention, populations, exposure, outcomes or tests should be described for each data source or article. Authors should ensure that they thoroughly address the following topics in the method section: search strategy and selection criteria, data extraction, quality assessment, and data analysis. An unstructured abstract is required.

2.3 Short Communication or Brief Report

These types of articles are intended to publish results of exceptional interest that are particularly topical and relevant, rather than preliminary results. These articles should not exceed 2,500 words, and should include the main text, references, and not more than three figures or tables. An unstructured abstract is required for these types of articles.

2.4 Letter to the Editor

We welcome short letters with topics of interest to the ACEMedicine readership. These letters must not exceed 700 words, including the main text, references, and only one table or figure. No abstract is required for these articles.

3. Manuscript Preparation

The manuscript should include the title page, abstract, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusion, acknowledgment, and references.

  • Title page: The manuscript's full title, all authors' names and affiliations, and the corresponding author's contact information (including address, telephone number, and email) must be included. The article's title should be captivating and no more than 20-25 words. A running title of approximately 50 characters should also be provided.
  • Abstract:All articles, except letters to the editor, must include an abstract of no more than 250 words, followed by 3 to 5 keywords. The abstract should be structured with the following headings: Background, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusion. The keywords will assist indexers in cross-indexing articles as they are published with abstracts. Authors need to be careful that the abstract accurately reflects the content of the article and does not have citations or tables and figures.
  • Introduction:This should summarize the purpose and rationale for the study. It should be concise and not include an extensive subject review, data, or study conclusions.
  • Materials and Methods: : This should include the exact methods or observations used in the experiment. If equipment or apparatus is used, the manufacturer's name and address should be given in brackets. If the method used is an established one, a reference to it could be made, but if the method is new, sufficient information should be provided to allow for replication of the study by another author. Statistical methods and any general computer programme used in the study must be mentioned.
  • Results and Discussion: This must be presented in the form of text, table and illustrations. The text should not reiterate all the contents of the tables but instead refer to the table numbers. Long articles may require subheadings within some sections to provide clarity on their contents. This should highlight the current findings and compare them to other research in the field. The details of data should not be repeated in the discussion again. Emphasis should be on new and significant aspects of the study and the conclusions drawn from them. It must be mentioned whether the hypothesis stated in the article is true, false, or inconclusive.
  • Conclusion:This summarizes the study's thoughts and broader implications, emphasizing the importance of ideas and presenting potential new or expanded perspectives on the research issue. One well-developed paragraph is sufficient for a conclusion, although in some cases, a two- or three-paragraph conclusion may be necessary. All contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be included in the acknowledgment section. This includes individuals who provided technical help, writing assistance, and departmental heads who offered general support. Additionally, any financial and material support should also be acknowledged.
  • References:All manuscripts must include relevant references. Please remember that the current journal requires the Vancouver reference style. References should be numbered and ordered sequentially as they appear in the text, tables, boxes and figures. Please make sure that each reference mentioned in the text is included in the list of references, and vice versa. The author should make sure to refer to locally published studies by conducting a thorough literature search. It's important to note that the editor and reviewers may not be able to verify the accuracy of all reference citations. To reduce errors, the author should cross-check references with the original documents or use reference management software such as EndNote, Mendeley, RefWorks, etc. The references should include the information outlined in the provided models as follows:
    • Article: (l) Hudu SA, Harmal NS, Saeed MI, Alshrat AS, Malik YA, Niazlin MT, et al. Naturally occurring hepatitis B virus surface antigen mutant variants in Malaysian blood donors and vaccines. Eur J Clin Microbiol Infect Dis. 2015; 34(1):1-11.
    • Book chapter: (2) Phillipa SJ, Whisnant JP. An introduction to gerontology. In: Ringswen MK, Bond D, editors. Gerontology and leadership skills for nurses. 2nd ed. Albany (NY): Delmar Publishers; 1996. p. 465-78.
    • Book: (3) Ringsven MK, Bond D. Gerontology and leadership skills for nurses. 2nd ed. Albany (NY): Delmar Publishers; 1996.

4. Proofreading

Upon acceptance, the corresponding author will receive a computer printout of the manuscript for proofreading before publication to eliminate any errors. Corrections should be clearly marked and promptly sent to the journal office.

5. Abbreviations and Symbols

Use standard abbreviations and avoid using them in the title and abstract. The full term for an abbreviation should be used before its first occurrence unless it is a standard unit of measurement.

This includes receiving funds, fees, or holding stocks and shares in an organization that may benefit or suffer from the paper's publication.
